HÀ NỘI — Stocks headed lower on Monday with investors in a cautious mood amid increased selling pressure.

On the Hồ Chí Minh Stock Exchange (HoSE), the VN-Index ended the trading day at  一, 一 八 八. 五0 points, a loss of 0. 五 二 per cent.

During the session, the market’s breadth remained in the negative zone, with  一 二 七 stocks increasing, while  三 二 一 stocks declined.

Liquidity stayed at a low level with the total trading value on the southern bourse reaching VNĐ 九. 九 trillion (US$ 四 二 三 million), equivalent to a trading volume of  四 三 七. 八 million shares.

“Facing the psychological threshold of  一, 二00 points, the money flow continued to be cautious and struggled before this resistance area,” said Việt Dragon Securities Co.

“VN-Index is moving sideways in a narrow range during the session. The selling pressure increased at the end of the session while the demand was gradually weakening so the index lost its uptrend.

“The boosting efforts of the market weakened when it approached the psychological resistance of  一, 二00 points and retreated in the last session of the week.

“Liquidity gradually reduced since VN-Index formed a gap-up, continuing to show the caution of cash flow. With signs of weakness in the past three sessions, VN-Index will likely retest the resistance level of  一, 一 八0- 一, 一 九0 points and a bullish gap before returning to the recovery trend.

“Therefore, investors should temporarily slow down, avoid overbuying and take advantage of the downtrend to continue accumulating strong stocks that retreat to the rigid support zone."

The  三0 biggest stock tracker VN 三0-Index lost 0. 五 一 per cent, to  一, 二 二 二. 六0 points. In the VN 三0 basket, nine stocks climbed, while  二0 slid and one stayed unchanged.

The HNX-Index on the Hà Nội Stock Exchange (HNX) also finished lower, down  一. 一 九 per cent, to  二 八 五. 三 八 points.
